The goal of Lesson 2 is to make you confident about how stories work and how to analyze a Bible story. That is the subject of chapter 2 of How to Read the Bible as Literature. Read pages 33-73 in this book, in an awareness that the primary element of this course is to master How to Read the Bible as Literature.
Optional Learning by Doing Exercise
A good text with which to apply what you have learned in this lesson is the story of the separation of Abram [later called Abraham] and Lot, as narrated in Genesis 13. At the very least, formulate some generalizations about setting, character, and plot. Sometimes the presence of a foil functions as the equivalent of plot conflict.
