The primary prerequisite for this course is an interest in the Bible. But as already stated, the Bible is so prototypical as a work of literature that it is the best possible body of literature with which to get a handle on the reading and study of literature of all types. Working the other way, an interest in literature of whatever type will enhance a literary study of the Bible, so an already-existing interest in literature will enable a person to grasp the literary approach to the Bible more readily. Nonetheless, this course will yield its full effect to people who have minimal knowledge of the Bible or literature. It is a course for beginners as well as veterans.
